Our Clinic is at the heart of our operations. Providing full veterinary care to all our dogs from birth throughout their working lives, the Clinic also plays a vital role in the success rates of our breeding programme to produce top-quality guide and service dogs.
Our foremost concern is for the welfare of our dogs. When the Israel Guide Dog Center moved to its present location in Beit Oved in the early 1990s, the first building constructed was the Veterinary Clinic. Over the decades, this tiny 45-square-meter building has assisted us in managing the health and welfare of over 2,000 puppies and dogs.
With the increasing number of puppies born at the Center over the past 5 years, as well as overseeing the health of hundreds of dogs under the center’s responsibility at any given time, the Veterinary Clinic needs to be redesigned, renovated, and modernized, to be more efficient and effectual, and to meet future demands. Although much of the equipment is state-of-the-art, the cramped quarters place a serious constraint on its effective use. Space limitations also prohibit purchasing the latest cutting-edge equipment, which would simply be too large and cumbersome for the current space.
Increasing our capacity for both has become an urgent priority due to the impact on demand since 7th October.
This crucial project, more than doubling the size of the Clinic and adding designated spaces for an operating theatre, a fertility lab and a breeding area, will cost CAD 815,000 and is due to be completed by the end of the year.
